Reciprocity 2017 alumna Shasha Dothan is participating in This is Not Halfway, the final iteration of the exhibition series Chapters in Israeli Art, shown this year at AJU's Platt and Borstein Galleries (curator: Rotem Rozental).
The show includes works by both Dothan and Gal Amiram, both of whom investigate vision and its potential manipulations, immigration and identity, and the meeting points of personal narratives with communal experiences.
The exhibition examines the impact of Los Angeles on the viewpoint of alien artists that have made it their home. Suggesting the urban landscape is a central protagonist of the artistic action, this exhibition traces the city in the work, and the work within the city.
In "Going to L.A." Dothan explores the intricacies of the immigration experience through a series of video works, which navigate her own personal experience, sites and emblems of the American dream, and moments of familial departures.
